Přelet nad Grónskem
Trasa Praha - Frankfurt - Chicago - Albany měla alespoň tu výhodu, že jsme letěli nad Grónskem. Přes špinavé okýnko letadla jsem vyfotil následujícíh pár foto...
Fotky to bohužel nezachytí (a ještě navíc skrze špinavé okýnko), ale ty skály skutečně vypadaly skoro "na dosah". Výškoměr však ukazoval 11 km!Haú, bílou plání...další skály...okokřídlo

Trip to Adirondacks
Adirondacks is a mountain range in upstate New York, north from Albany. I've heard about it before, but never had chance to go there. Thus, when I found out that my roommate Sandy was going there for a day hike, I gladly joined
Mt. Algonquin is our first destination. It's only three miles, but 3000 feet (=1000 m) elevation change!First it was quite an easy walk...and enjoying amazing views. Adirondacks really are beautiful!...but after a while the ascent changed to a quite steep rockSandy making his way upCatching breath...Now we are almost at the top - entering the Arctic-Alpine zone, a rare phenomenon at this latitude and the only one in New York stateThe route to the top is now marked with these "pyramids"......Alpine flowerAnd here we are, at the peak...The views are really stunning - river bendHills and forests as far as you can see...Time to move to a near smaller peak - through annoying bushes...But we are rewarded by more views: Mt Algonquin from which we just came hereRockslide in the valley underneath us...and mudpoolsSmall waterfall on the way backPath along the lakeLake

Palm Springs
On the way from LA to Joshua Tree National Park we stayed overnight in Palm Springs, a pleasant resort in the middle of California deserts.
Highway 10 from LA crossing another highway in a intricate system of interwoven bridgesNightlife in Palm SpringsGirls hitting the townFountainAfter few drinks even the camera is getting slow:-)Bar where we had a drink and listened to live jazz performanceThe desert is dry, but windy - wind generators are everywhereIt's maybe environmentally friendly, but definitely it totally destroys the horizon:-/Our car - we rented it, didn't buy it, so we didn't name it as in Australia or NZ
Joshua Tree National Park
Very nice desert NP in the desert at the border of Colorado and Mojave deserts, with unique trees, rocky formations, surprising variety of wildlife and many walking trails.
First few Joshua Trees, after which the park was named;-)Detail of the tree trunk and branchesThis must be an old guy...Trees and rocks make some amazing sceneriesJoshua trees are about the only things that provide some shadeI didn't bring falling pad so I only went as high as this:-)...Fruits of the Joshua TreeThese are a bit boring, but there are some other:Joshua Tree park is very popular for climbers - these even bring their own falling padsLook there! Some rock formations...The Skull Rock - looks like skull but only from afarSuch as desert tortoise. The guide said it's rare so we were apparently lucky to see it. Credit goes to Imelda, who spotted it first!Look but don't touchShoko is signalling something......As we were having our lunch......a blue bird flew to us and started searching for some crumbs. Sorry mate, feeding wildlife is bannedBut if you are careful, cactus can be very beautiful like this one...So where do we go next? There seem to be some diagreements among the crew...Old dead tree pointing in all directionsThis rock looks more like a faceBelly button:-)Finally we found the Barker Dam - swimming (in the sand?) is forbidden......or this oneSo there is a dam, after all! In the middle of desert! That explains how come there could be so much wildlifeand, ... ahem...:-)A gate treeThis tree is alive and blossomingTime to head back: don't forget to drink a lot of water! Yes, sir!In a heroic attempt to shoot the rabbit (with camera!), Imel stumbled and sat on this: ouch! Fortunately she sustained no permanent injuries:-)But there was also a rabbit!Lizards are of course omnipresent
Route 66
Travelling towards Grand Canyon along the "Mother Road" - Route 66. It was in fact not as exciting as we expected, but some parts were nice:-) We only travelled a short stretch, though...
